Park in the free car park on the East side of Portchester Castle, grid ref SU625047, postcode PO16 9QW (100 miles round trip from Newbury), and meet the leader for a walk start at 10:00 am. The walk climbs 400 feet to Fort Nelson on Ports Down for views over Portsmouth Harbour to the Isle of Wight and stops for an hour for a well-deserved coffee and a quick look round the armaments museum (free entry). It then goes downhill to the Cams Mill pub at Fareham for lunch. After lunch we walk by Portsmouth Harbour and back to the castle. This is a linear walk along the K & A canal path, passing through beautiful countryside, and under the Avoncliffe Aqueduct into Bath, returning by train or bus. Look out for diverse wildlife, including heron and kingfisher. This stretch of the Canal is typically populated with an eclectic collection of narrow boats and owners enjoying life afloat. Stop off for refreshments at the Angelfish Cafe in Brassknocker Basin, before completing the route into Bath. The walk begins from a large layby on the A339 going south from Basingstoke; RG25 2NF / SU652485. From there we will walk up through Hackwood Park, before going south east through Tunworth and Weston Corbett, turning west to Nashes Green towards the Fox PH in Ellisfield for lunch, a distance of about 10.5 miles. The cost of parking is £3.20 for the day. From there we will go past the church onto the canal tow path, crossing the canal and going north and west up towards Littlecote House. We then turn south west down towards Froxfield, stopping at the Pelican PH for lunch, a distance of about 7.5 miles.
