If you are looking for routes in and around town, we have cooperated in the creation of the walking maps for Newbury, Thatcham, Theale & Calcot and Tilehurst & Purley on Thames published by West Berkshire Council.

They are downloadable as  pdf images from this page or from the Council's website - click here or on the Council's logo to go to the relevant page.

They are also available free in printed form from the West Berkshire Tourist Information Centre or the Council's offices, or by telephoning the Council's Local Transport Policy team on 01635 519505.

The best general-purpose maps for walking in the countryside of West Berkshire are the Ordnance Survey's 1:25,000 scale Explorer maps.

This map shows the main towns around West Berkshire and the areas nearby where we regularly walk, and the approximate relationship of the local maps to each other.

Click on the marker nearest to your point of interest and it will give you the Explorer map number. Click on the number on the list below and this will take you to the Ordnance Survey Map Shop details for the map, though note that rights of way information is not always brought up to date when only minor revisions are made.

The maps can be borrowed from many libraries and are available in bookshops, tourist information centres etc. as well as online.
