West Berks Ramblers

Working for Walkers

Maps

The best general-purpose maps for walking in the countryside of West Berkshire are the Ordnance Survey's 1:25,000 scale Explorer maps. They can be borrowed from many libraries and are available in bookshops, tourist information centres etc. as well as online. Those covering the area of West Berkshire and its surrounds are:

  • Map 130 - Salisbury & Stonehenge
  • Map 131 - Romsey, Andover & Test Valley
  • Map 132 - Winchester
  • Map 144 - Basingstoke, Alton & Whitchurch
  • Map 157 - Marlborough & Savernake Forest
  • Map 158 - Newbury & Hungerford
  • Map 159 - Reading, Wokingham & Pangbourne
  • Map 169 - Cirencester and Swindon
  • Map 170 - Abingdon, Wantage and Vale of White Horse

If you are looking for routes in and around town, we have cooperated in the creation of the walking maps for Newbury, Thatcham, Theale & Calcot and Tilehurst & Purley on Thames published by West Berkshire Council. They are downloadable as pdf images from the Council's website and are also available free in printed form from the Council's offices, or by telephoning the Council's Local Transport Policy team on 01635 519505.
