Joining UsNot sure whether you would enjoy walking with a group? Why not come along and try it. The walks programme gives a brief description of each walk and a contact number for the walk leader. If you are not sure about any aspect of the walk call the leader and ask. How to get there. We organise a number of walks that connect with public transport, and car sharing (which we actively encourage) is arranged for many others. Normally you can just turn up at the meeting point for a walk but do feel free to phone the leader in advance (especially if you’re not familiar with the location specified). Types of walks. Our leaders organise a wide range of walks, from the easy to the demanding. Some walks are all-day walks with a picnic break, but there are also half-day and shorter walks. Most of our shorter walks are generally taken at a fairly slow pace, apart from the summer evening short walks which are rather brisker. What to bring. You will need suitable footwear and clothing for the walk you intend to join, and you will probably want to bring some food and drink, even if the walk includes a pub or café break. When in doubt, contact the walk leader. Dogs. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on our walks unless the walk description states otherwise. If you do bring a dog, you are responsible for its behaviour at all times - please keep it under close control, especially on farmland, and on a short lead near livestock or when requested by the leader. Are you fit enough? If you are not sure ask the leader about the route and the walk pace but generally we cater for most ages from children to golden oldies. Other activities. We also arrange coach rambles and weekend and longer breaks away. You do not need to be a member of the Ramblers to try our walks but we rather hope that you will want to join after you have been on a few. Not everything is publicised on the web and if you’d like to see a copy of our full programme before you decide whether or not to join us, our Secretary will be happy to send you the current one – don’t forget to include your full postal address in your email! Join the Ramblers. If you walk regularly with us you will undoubtedly want to join the Ramblers. By joining, you'll receive regular copies of our full programme and many other benefits, and will also be supporting the organisation’s work on behalf of all walkers. Click here to go to the Ramblers joining page, and make sure you specify West Berkshire as your local group when you fill in the joining form. Associate Members. If you are already a member of another Ramblers group and would like to receive copies of our programmes, then this can be arranged for a small annual charge – please contact our Secretary for further details.
